Holden Lenten Services

Holden Evening Prayer is a simple, beautiful service of worship that helps us keep Lent with steady hearts and unhurried voices. Rooted in the ancient Christian practice of evening prayer, or vespers, this service invites us to end the day by turning again toward God through Scripture, song, silence, and shared intercession.
What makes Holden distinctive is its music. It is gentle, repetitive, and easy to learn. A cantor, often accompanied by guitar or other simple instruments, leads sung responses that the whole congregation can join, even if it is your first time. The services include a Psalm, a reading from scripture, a sermon, the Magnificat, and prayers. It concludes with a blessing as we are sent back into the week.
In Lent, we are invited to slow down, to examine our lives honestly, and to remember that repentance is not gloom but a return to the God who is merciful and near. These services are quiet without being empty, reflective without being heavy, and communal without being complicated. Join us as our community continues taking one step forward together in faith.
